Silver Linings Playbook Release

Silver Linings Playbook finally came out on DVD today! Super exciting. I've pretty much been waiting for this since I left the theatre haha.
In case you don't know what the movie is about, here's the synopsis from the back of the movie.
Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) has lost everything - his house, his job and his wife. He finds himself living back with his movther (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert De Niro) after spending 8 months in a state institution on a plea bargain. While rebuilding his life, Pat is determined to remain positive and reunitewith his wife despite the challenging circumstances of their seperation. When Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. As their relationship plays out, an unexpected bond forms between them and silver linings appear in both of their lives.
I had to go out and buy this movie for myself tonight. Mostly because it's on sale, and also because I really did like it. It's got funny parts, sad parts, and emotional parts. I also really like Jennifer Lawrence. I think she did a fabulous job as Tiffany.
It's not your typical rom-com. It's from Pat's point of view, and he's so stubborn and hung up on his ex-wife that he doesn't even really notice Tiffany, and doesn't realize that she's falling for him.
The final scenes were probably my favourite. It wrapped everything up pretty nicely, could even say a little cliche, but I thought it was cute.
The movie was also nominated for about 7 different Academy Awards. Unfortunately they only got Best Actress, but they were up against some very good movies.
I'm going to watch this tomorrow on my day off and I recommend that you watch it as well. My sister has already asked to borrow my copy :)

Disneybound Success

In case you don't know what Disneybounding is, it's essntially dressing up as Disney characters without being in a costume. There's a website here that creates a bunch of different outfits.
I've been wanting to try Disneybounding for a while but well, for one thought I'd look ridiculous, but also I wasn't entirely sure what I'd wear or who I'd be.
Enter my birthday dinner. My lovely BFF Amberella and I always go out for birthday and Christmas dinners to Boston Pizza, and we always dress up. I had this pretty blue dress that I had yet to wear, and I just bought some sparkly silver shoes, so I decided I would be Periwinkle, from the Tinkerbell movie. (Shame on me, I still haven't watched this movie...and I got it for Christmas...)

Periwinkle Disneybound
It's not the best Disneybound ever, but for my first try it's not too bad. I could also technically be Cinderella or the blue fairy. But I like Tinkerbell movies the best (and note the teeny tiny fairy earrings...also a Christmas present haha).
I've decided I need a pair of bright yellow shoes, then I can be Mickey Mouse :)
We had an enjoyable dinner, I ate too much as usual but it was delicious. And I got my free dessert. And my presents just prove that Amberella knows me too well, one of which included Merida's bow from Brave :)

That's all from my latest misadventure. See you soon!

Happy Birthday to Me

It's my birthday next week so my sister came up this weekend to celebrate. Basically that just means eat Chinese food and cake.
Normally for birthdays I'll make and decorate the cakes, but I don't want to have to make my own cake, so I usually opt for ice cream cake. Because let's face it, ice cream cake is delicious. Past years I've gotten Tinkerbell cakes from the Dairy Queen, because I knew they had them, I liked them and it was just easier. This year I went online to order it and learned they had Tangled cakes and Brave cakes. Then I was torn. Final decision was the Brave cake.
My awesome birthday cake
Other than that, my mom gave me my presents that I had already bought (she felt it was easier to just have me get them and then pay me back) and my sister gave me an awesome wrap bracelet.
Yay Harry Potter :)
I'm hoping the weather warms up this week so that I can give my car a makeover with the new accessories I got. Maybe if I'm feeling ambitious it might even get cleaned haha.

And in non birthday related news, I found a place to live this summer so I don't have to drive an hour to work everyday. Yay! Good news. That means I might actually have a life and not be cranky all the time.

Mini Movie Review: Olympus Has Fallen

Normally I don't go to the movies on a non Tuesday night, but I got a 2 for 1 coupon that expired on the 30th, so we decided to go. I was torn on what movie I wanted to go see, because I *really* wanted to see GI Joe: Retalliation, but it was in 3D. And I am not at all fond of 3D. The other movie I wanted to see was Olympus Has Fallen, and it's out of theatres tomorrow. Therefore, it was decided we were going to see Olympus.

I'll start off with the very short synopsis given by Cineplex:
When the President (Aaron Eckhart) is kidnapped by a terrorist who seizes control of the White House (Secret Service Code: "Olympus"), disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) finds himself trapped within the building. As the national security team rushes to respond, they must rely on Banning's insider knowledge to save the President and prevent an even greater catastrophe.

Now I don't know about you, but I love me some Gerard Butler haha. He was the highlight of the film.

The movie starts off with an unfortunate incident which results in Banning's termination from the President's security detail. It then brings you to 18 months later, where he's working at the treasury, wanting to get back on the President's team.

It seems pretty illogical that he can manage to get from the treasury which is next door to the White House, past all the bad guys without dying, with just his hand gun while all the Secret Service guys are dying.

There's lots of exploding, lots of blood, and lots and lots of people dying. I really wasn't expecting that much death. At all. But even though it was a high action, high amounts of death movie, they still managed to have some funny parts. Like the fact that they call the President's son "Spark Plug".

Overall I thought it wasn't a bad movie. Probably not one that I'll be buying, but I wouldn't say no to watching it again. Gerard Butler is pretty badass, and there's a fairly happy ending. Other than, you know, all the people who died.

Hopefully I didn't give anything away, and that you'll still want to watch it after reading this.

Starting Something New

Hi there! *waves excitedly*

Welcome to The Many Misadventures of Megpie.

I'm Megan. I actually can't tell you where that nickname came from. Someone starting calling me Megpie in high school and it just sort of stuck.

I'm going to start this blog off by telling you some fun facts about myself.

1. I don't actually know what this blog is going to be about.
Things I do, things I watch, things I read. Random thoughts and adventures I suppose.

2. I'm kind of a bit of a nerd.
Or geek. I'm not really sure what the proper terminology is. I like kind of nerdy things. Books, Harry Potter, superheroes, random tv shows that other people think are weird (Firefly and Sherlock are two examples).

3. I sometimes have the mentality of a 10 year old.
Ok, that's being generous. More like a 5 year old. I like Disney (and most other cartoons) and will giggle like a small child when I see certain things (Agnes and the minions from Despicable Me, Boo from Monsters Inc, and the brother bears from Brave to name a few). Small things amuse me.

4. I have 2 college diplomas.
Tourism & Travel and Recreation & Leisure. Haven't really gotten me too far in life yet...

5. I like alphabetizing and sorting things.
Goes back to me being a nerd I guess. My movies and books are all alphabetized. I even did my boyfriend's movies (he made fun of me but secretly he likes it haha).

6. I only have one sister.
Her name is Kaley. She has a blog too. It is here. Go say hi!

7. I like the colour red.
I have since I was a baby. It makes me happy.

8. My favourite animals are monkeys and hippos.
I'm not really sure why, as they're really the cutest of creatures. But I love the stuffed versions. :)

9. I am an aspiring photographer.
Hah. That just means I have a fancy camera and like to take pictures that I never think are any good.

10. I want to travel.
So far I've been to B.C., on a cruise to the Bahamas and to Universal Orlando. I want to go to the UK, Hawaii and Disneyworld. Lately I've also been really wanted to go to NYC.

10.2 I collect postcards.
I have 234 at this point. Not all are from places I've been. In fact, most are from other people. Right now they're in 2 big photo albums, but someday I want them displayed on my wall like wallpaper.

So that's basically me in a nutshell.

Hope you'll follow me on my many misadventures!
